It WILL NOT connect to my PC out of the box. I can use it as a webcam via USB (ooooh 12k JPGS - what quality!), but neither USB nor Firewire cables came supplied with it.I will go and buy a Firewire cable to see if that works later today.My advice to anyone planning on buying this camera: AVOID! Panasonic nvgs21 is working perfectly by now connected to my p.c!!All we had to do was to turn the silver switch (not the joystick)to 'pc' function, turn on the cam,and xp (or other os)will do the rest. Now i also bought an sd card panxsonic Digital card) which is combatible with the cam and i can only transfer the photos because that's the only thing that can be stored in sd card.pretty dummy,ha?

If your PC was a laptop the the chances are you would need a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. The difference as far as you are concerned here is just the different size of the sockets.All versions of Windows since Windows 98se have included panasohic the required drivers for useing firewire devices.

i see ones here for only 0.99p ebuyer cable I would suggest you udb clear of the very cheap & nasty cables, but don't spend a fortune on a branded cable either as you will get no benefit - you should get a perfectly good cable for under ?10. Have a Panasonic Camcorder NV GS17 and wanted to download some family videos to burn. It won't allow me. It appears to recognise the camera as a web cam well at least isb is the only one showing in the drop down box within the video part of the Roxio programme. However it doesn't allow any button to be highlightedAssumed (maybe wrongly) that I could download via usb previously on older computer I pnasonic always used video leads.

The Pansonic has both a DV and USB connection.I realise that I didn't purchase any firewire connection on the pc and went out today to buy one assuming that I could simply connect it. Was advised it wasn't that simple.So can I download via usb or do I need firewire? do I simply plug it in? will Roxio automatically recognise it? are there no driver's for my camcorder to use in Vista. If it did happen, the video quality would be poor.If you have an open Usbb slot on your motherboard, panasoniv you can get a firewire card to put it. It isn't hard to do.Before you do, look under Device Manager, to see if you have anything listed for IEEE 1394 Pwnasonic Host Controllers.

If you do, you may just need to get a firewire cable.
